I (George Dowdell) have recently become a trustee of a new charity that was the vision of Tony Lemboye.
Young star mentoring coaches and mentors young people who have had difficulties in life both personally and socially, by guiding them through a training program of personal development. We teach them to be part of a team, encourage discipline, respect, self worth and a deeper sense of community.
Passion
Tony is passionate about helping youngster to achieve their potential. So far he has taken 18 young people to Spain to walk the Camino De Santiago and organised numerous trips in the United Kingdom. Young Star Mentoring has been set up as a charity to help him achieve his aims.
Our aim is to show young people how to make better choices in life and how to lead more healthier, fruitful and productive lives. We achieve this through physical fitness, adventurous training and hiking expeditions in the UK and abroad. The trips we lead are to some of the most beautiful parts of the UK such as Snowdonia, Lake district and The Breacon Beacons. We also lead regular pilgrimage expeditions in Northern Spain on the Camino De Santiago.
We’re going to do it anyway!
It looked as though we had secured funding of £30,000 which would have been enough for the next two years. But at the last-minute it now seems this money will not be forthcoming. When the trustees (including Tony) met we were determined that we would put our trust in God and the generosity of people to achieve Tony’s aims anyway.
I could not do what Tony is doing but I can help him by administration, accounting, and appealing for funds.
Appeal
So, unashamedly, I am asking people who know me, and those who know the excellent work that Tony is doing to donate what they can. Please don’t think of it as a donation to a charity, but as way of making a real difference in a vulnerable young person’s life.
