
How incredibly simple! We all know how we want to be treated by other people! Jesus says simply “Treat them like we want to be treated”.
As we seek to follow Jesus Christ, then we take notice of his teachings and do our best to put them into practice. The teachings of Jesus are summed up in what we call “The Sermon on the Mount”. As we read through these verses we come to a single verse which sums everything up.

How we treat other people is vitality important. Jesus told us to ‘love our neighbour’. Love includes dignity and respect. Love in a marriage would quickly die if both partners did not respect each other and treat the other with dignity.
Seeking the common good is a universal concept found in many world religions and in human culture throughout history. The alternative to the common good is selfishness and looking after “number one”. In ancient history it would have been expressed as what is good for the tribe as opposed to what is good for the individual. In more recent times seeking the common good might apply to our local community or to our country. With the world becoming a smaller place the common good can now apply to the whole of humanity.
